Paul Joyce and James Pearce report same thing about Liverpool bid for £42M signing that is reportedly advancing

Liverpool journalists both have said the same thing regarding the signing of £50m midfield star that would fix their current injury issues.

The Reds have been heavily linked with Sporting's Matheus Nunes, with reports intensifying over recent days.

Thiago will reportedly be out for up to six weeks alongside Curtis Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain meaning that a new midfielder may well come in.

However, the reports from the Athletic's James Pearce and The Times' Paul Joyce claim that the reports of a bid have been quashed.

Latest reports on Nunes

According to the Athletic writer's latest reports, Liverpool are not interested in the midfielder despite rumours.

Pearce was one of two respected journalists to turn down the claim with The Times' Paul Joyce responding by saying the Reds are “not pursuing a deal” for Sporting CP’s No. 8.

This is despite injury concerns in the middle of the pitch to multiple players, plus a reliance on an injury-prone Naby Keita, 36-year-old James Milner and two young stars still finding their way in the senior game - Jurgen Klopp may have some disgruntled fans in his ear if their midfield issues stand in the way of another great season.

Rumours in Portugal suggest differently...

Despite Pearce and Joyce claiming no interest, according to Lisbon-based publication Correio da Manha, the club are preparing a bid for the 23-year-old.

The publication was apparently right about the signing of Darwin Nunez earlier this summer but was also wrong over the signing of Porto's Octavio.

Fans are pleading with their side to sign Nunes but Klopp is standing by his claim to not sign anyone else this window.
