Liverpool's midfield target could cost up to €60M due to new deal - only valued at £9M

Liverpool's young midfield target could be set to cost up to €60M due to a new contract that expires in 2027.

As is such with these types of situations, the club securing a long-term deal with the player will see his value rise as a result, as any club who wants to sign him will have to get him out of such a long deal.

Furthermore, Flamengo are just looking to protect itself with Joao Gomes being one of their brightest talents.

Liverpool have been linked in the last few months and now we're getting new information on the potential signing of the young tenacious midfield.

Latest reports on Gomes

According to Mundo Deportivo (h/t Liverpool Echo), Flamengo have set a price of €60M [£53M] for their young starlet.

Gomes, 21, had previously claimed that Liverpool would be a dream move and that he has the 'greatest desire' to play in the Champions League and for Liverpool.

Given he is a Brazilian defensive midfielder, one could say that some are tipping him to become the next Fabinho. At 21, he is developing at a fast rate.

He is first and foremost a tough-tackler but he also likes to keep it simple in possession with 32.7 average passes per game with a 87.3% success rate.

3.7 tackles per game last season shows his desire to get stuck-in, but its clear there may be some way to go yet before he can fulfill a transfer fee of that size.

His passing stats don't show anything remarkable; he has only 1.2 long ball per game and only 32.7 passes. The jump up from that league England's premier division will prove a tough test but he is surely being locked at as a long-term target.

Fabinho and Liverpool sorely need a back-up defensive midfielder - what better person to bring in than somone who has desire, tenacity and real potential.

We don't expect any movement on this, especially for the recorded fee. But we know Europe is calling for Gomes.
