"Liverpool's best player this season!" former Liverpool praises £19.8m star

A former Liverpool player has praised Liverpool's £19.8M star claiming he's been their best player this season so far.

The Reds secured a late, late win over Newcastle thanks to Fabio Carvalho in what was a much-needed win for Jurgen Klopp's men.

Carvalho's 98th-minute winner sent Anfield into a frenzy after Alexander Isak's opener was cancelled out by Roberto Firmino, who's now scored in back-to-back league games.

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has come out and praised 19-year-old Harvey Elliott for his early season performances. He claims the young star has actually been Liverpool's best player so far.

Danny Murphy's comments on Harvey Elliott

Former Liverpool and Fulham midfielder Murphy was speaking on BBC Sport, describing Elliott as the team's best player from the start of the season so far.

Murphy claimed: "Well Liverpool, who have been criticised earlier in the season, there's talks of a midfielder coming in, they've got two young players, especially one who I think's been Liverpool's best player this season in Harvey Elliott.

"He took control of the game and demanded it. From minute one he was at it, he was sharp, confident and I think when you see a young player demanding it like he does, trying to make things happen and is prepared to make mistakes, it does bode well in the future for him.

"I like him in the central midfield area as a three, it gives him freedom to go and hunt the ball down. He's getting better at defensive work, winning the ball back, he's tenacious for a small guy, doesn't mind getting his foot in, nice and strong.

"He had the most passes in the final third for Liverpool. He was involved in the goal and he was involved in everything positive that Liverpool did.

"Then in the last minute you bring on another young guy [Carvalho] and what a talent he is as well and it was a magic, magic moment. They might just save Liverpool a few quid in the market."

Elliott totalled one key pass, 84% pass completion, 4/5 accurate long balls, one shot on target and four dribbles completed - he really impressed once again.

Now he could be set for an extended period in the side with captain Jordan Henderson limping off with a suspected hamstring injury and other midfielder's fitness in question.

More excitement to come from Liverpool's star boy.
