Liverpool were ready to complete €100M transfer on deadline day with a bid made in the dying offers of the window

According to reports from Spain, Liverpool had made all the preparations necessary and made a bid to sign Real Madrid star, Federico Valverde.

The Uruguayan has developed into a world-class player over the last 15 months and is the reason the Reds were defeated in the Champions League final.

Thibaut Courtois and Vinicius Junior were also standouts but Valverde's engine, pace and tactical astuteness kept the entire right-hand side of the pitch on lock for most of the game.

He also assisted Vinicius Jr.'s goal although Liverpool fans blame that on lazy, unenergetic defending from Virgil van Dijk - an issue that continues to pose problems this season.

The Anfield outfit was prepared to make a sensational late move to sign the midfielder and were ready to put €100M on the line to secure the signing.

Unsurprisingly, Real Madrid said no.

They were firmly denied with Los Blancos not interested in selling him at all.

No surprise that Carlo Ancelotti didn't want to sell

This weekend, Valverde was simply world-class for Madrid.

His all-round game is almost untouchable at the moment and he once again showcased his running power and attacking threat with a golazo from outside the box.

He embarked on a 50-yard run which culminated in a powerful shot from outside the box to make it 2-0 to Madrid.

The 24-year-old would be an outstanding signing for Liverpool if he ever joined.

In my mind, I see him as a player that could do what Jordan Henderson did at right-centre mid alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold.

In 2019/20, one of our skipper's best-ever seasons, he patrolled the right flank and was industrious, energetic and smart.

Now, Hendo is struggling to match the athletes he's playing against in the Premier League and no longer raises the bar as far as work rate in the engine room is concerned.

Valverde is an evolved version of the 19/20 version of Henderson but if Liverpool sign Jude Bellingham they will get an even better player.
