Julian Ward set to to make offer - Liverpool could finally sign £106,000/week cultured passer

Liverpool look set to target another midfielder amidst their injury woes as they hope to secure £106k-a-week experienced midfielder before the window shuts.

The Reds have had some rotten luck with injuries to players in the middle of the park with Thiago, Curtis Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all out injured.

Inter Milan's Marcelo Brozovic has emerged as a target who Liverpool have been monitoring for a long time.

Could we see Jurgen Klopp finally green-light a midfield signing?

Latest reports on Brozovic

Liverpool are set to make an offer Inter Milan star Marcelo Brozovic in the last days of the transfer window, according to Spanish publication.

According to the report, Klopp has identified Brozovic as one of these alternatives to Bellingham and that the German boss is preparing a move to secure the services of the Croatian international.

Liverpool will offer the 29-year-old, who is currently earning £106,000 a week, a two-year deal with an option for a third.

However, they could face competition from the likes of Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain, who are also said to have held a long-term interest in the 2018 World Cup finalist.

The midfielder currently has four years left on his deal and is valued at around £36M and currently earns around £106k-a-week.

How would he fit in?

Predominately, he is a defensive midfielder and is a very reliable, experienced and commanding midfield presence. The key stat would be that he played 47 times last season, missing only two through injury.

He fits in perfectly as an alternative to Fabinho as the lone defensive midfielder or in the three-man midfield, potentially in Jordan Henderson's position.

His 85% long ball percentage last season shows he is a cultured midfielder but his passing is also highly progressive and direct; he's in the highest percentiles for passes attempted, passes completed (%) and progressive passes.

He wouldn't add goals to this Liverpool team (only 7 G/A contributions last season) but he adds stability, flexibility across two or three-man midfielders and a solid injury record to go alongside his vast experience.
