A former Liverpool player is being targeted by Sevilla in a sale which would see the Reds earn around £5-6M.

Luis Alberto, now at Lazio, has been linked with a move to the Spanish side Sevilla in recent days.

The Reds are due to get 30% of the sale money despite the player only making 12 appearances for the club before joining Lazio in 2016.

The extra money could go towards a new midfield signing as Jurgen Klopp's men look set to strengthen.

In the case of Alberto, a recent story published by Corriere dello Sport, Sevilla are looking to bring the former Malaga loanee back to the club.

Their initial offer of around €15-16 million which was turned down by Lazio, but they know that Liverpool will get 30% of the fee from Alberto’s sale and they are prepared to sell him for around €22-23M (£19.4M).

He made over 200 appearances and has won Coppa Italia and two Italian Super Cup titles with Lazio.

The Spaniard notched five goals and 12 assists in all competitions and Sevilla will hope his quality can help them retain top-four football in La Liga.

Despite the irony that Alberto could be a source of creativity for the current Liverpool side, their midfield targets possess more energy, power and pace in the middle of the park.

The extra £5-6m could help make the difference in the signing of a Matheus Nunes for example.

The Reds are already without Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Kieta, Curtis Jones and Thiago meaning a new midfielder is needed.

Anfield Central understands that Nunes will wait for Liverpool having already turned down a move to Wolves.

The midfielder is just what Klopp needs as the 23-year-old has a perfect injury record in his fledgling career, only ever missing 1 game due to testing positive for Covid-19 in March 2021.

Liverpool need more midfielders whose availability is close to 100% which has been an issue since Georginio Wijnaldum left the club.

Some supporters weren't massive fans of the Dutchman but he guaranteed 8/10 every game and ensured Klopp always had him as an option.

Nunes is robust and enthusiastic in his defending but can also drive Sporting Lisbon forward with his pace, power and perfect passing range.
