Report: Liverpool have earmarked "huge money" to complete a blockbuster January signing

The 2022/23 season has been disappointing for many Liverpool fans as the heights of last season's quadruple hunt have been followed by the lows of the current Premier League season.

Jurgen Klopp's side has won just two games from seven and despite being the fourth-highest scoring team in the division, they are 9th in the table and are 11 points behind league-leaders Arsenal.

A dismal draw at home to Brighton on Saturday summed up the defensive mess that has characterised this season.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was most at fault but there is a lack of spine in this side that is extremely worrying as their Champions League campaign resumes with a clash against Rangers.

A win should be expected on paper but anyone that has watched Liverpool this season will be worried about a defeat at Anfield tonight unless Klopp can motivate his team to move past their defensive frailties.

Many fans would still like to see a new signing in January to ensure this season isn't a complete waste.

Jude Bellingham remains the name on everyone's lips and there is potential for him to join in January.

According to Football Insider, Liverpool are setting aside "huge money" to complete a January signing and the obvious target would be Bellingham.

Quite frankly, the teenager has all the tools to become the best midfielder in the world and that's a destiny Jurgen Klopp could help him realise at Anfield either in January or in the summer.

It would be an incredibly difficult signing to complete with Real Madrid one of the leading sides in the race to sign Dortmund's new crown jewel.

Yet, despite Madrid's terrifying financial strength, Liverpool "are expected to announce club-record revenues" of more than £550M for the 2021/22 season which saw them come agonisingly close to winning the quadruple.

Liverpool are also reportedly laying the groundwork for a Bellingham move and sealing his signature in January would be a bold and competitive move from FSG.

Although the Americans agreed to pay as much as £85M for Darwin Nunez, they failed once again to reinforce the midfield which has been an issue since Georginio Wijnaldum left.

Arthur Melo arrived from Juventus on a season-long loan but there have been no signs yet to suggest he will be a resounding success although I remain hopeful he can make a majorly positive impact on this team.
