Liverpool could trigger £0 release clause to sign ex-Premier League hitman

Suarez scored 82 goals and provided 47 assists for Liverpool in just 133 games which averaged out to 0.96 direct goal contributions per 90 minutes.

This season, despite being 34 and playing for a very defensive Atletico Madrid side, Suarez has 21 goal involvements in 29 La Liga games.

That's much higher than Firmino's 12 goal involvements in the Premier League this term.

According to a report from Spanish newspaper Marca back in February, there is a clause in the contract signed between Suarez and Atletico Madrid that could see the former Liverpool hitman leave the club for £0 on June 30th, 2021 for free.

The clause exists as the La Liga side don't want to keep him against his free will and are of the view that, as he nears the end of his career, he should be able to end it in whichever way he wants.

They hope that Suarez is happy enough to remain at the Wanda Metropolitano to not trigger the £0 release clause.

Marca did state, on the 15th of February when they revealed his contract details, that Suarez is happy with Atletico but with the La Liga side on the precipice of winning the league, he may be tempted with a return to Anfield where he came so close to Premier League glory in 2014.

A front three of Suarez, Salah and Mane would be brilliant to watch and would certainly have the fear factor that has been missing this season.

He might be 34 years of age but the Uruguayan is one of the fittest players in the world and has possibly the best injury record of any player I've ever seen.

He's only ever missed more than 4 games in a row once when he underwent knee surgery and in 2020 and even then, he only missed 14 games and it was an elective operation to prevent future damage and was done at the end of the season.

Jurgen Klopp wouldn't need to worry about signing a player that is falling apart at the end of his career but I don't think I need to sell the idea of signing Suarez to Liverpool fans.

Signing Suarez would be incredible even if only as a stop-gap to cover the Reds until they can afford to splash the cash on someone like Kylian Mbappe or Erling Haaland.

Opinion: Planned £50m deal will guarantee success for years to come
