Rapid player with "immense quality" wants Liverpool move; Reds investigating signing him
Liverpool target Kylian Mbappe has earned rave reviews from Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema after he told Marca that the PSG star has "immense quality."
Duncan Castles previously told the Transfer Window Podcast that Liverpool would be first choice for Mbappe if he left Paris Saint-Germain and while PSG president Nasser Al Khelaifi has boldly declared that the Frenchman will never leave the club, if his contract runs out there is little he can do.
"I will be clear, Mbappe is going to stay in Paris," Al-Khelaifi told L'Equipe. "We will never sell him and he will never leave on a free (transfer). Mbappe has everything he needs in Paris.
"Where can he go? What club, in terms of ambition, can compete with PSG today? All I can say is that things are going well and I hope we can reach an agreement (on a new contract).
"This is Paris, this is his country. He has a mission, not only to play football but to promote Ligue 1, his country and his capital."
It's a bold claim but with Mbappe currently running his contract down, he could leave PSG for free at the end of the 2021/22 season and if Duncan Castles is right, Liverpool could snap him up.
Also speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, Ian McGarry declared that the Reds are investigating signing Mbappe.
Karim Benzema has now spoken about his talented teammate ahead of the EUROs, telling Marca: “Kylian is a young player, with immense quality and he is a good boy. He would be welcome to Real Madrid, of course, but what team wouldn’t sign him without hesitation?
“For now he has a contract at PSG and we will see what he decides. Today our priority is to win the Euros.”
Real Madrid is also a realistic destination for Mbappe but if he's looking for stability, Anfield would be the best place for him.
Jurgen Klopp could do wonderful things with a player of Mbappe's talents and you only need to look at how he developed Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane to get an idea of the kind of impact he can have on attacking players.
He also helped Robert Lewandowski grow into the player he is today. Mbappe has 42 goals and 11 assists this season so he hardly needs much guidance but he can still improve which Klopp could help with.
As I wrote recently, Liverpool's best chance of signing the former AS Monaco star would be to sign him on a free if he continues running his contract down and for further reading on the matter, read this Twitter thread from one of my favourite follows on there.
