Klopp 'obsessed' with £63m Champions League winning midfielder - would be perfect for Liverpool's midfield

The Reds have been big players in the transfer market this summer signing the likes of Darwin Nunez and Fabio Carvalho whilst also letting Sadio Mane leave.

Their transfer targets have mainly been in midfield given the age profiles of some of their current personnel.

Liverpool have been linked with another midfielder after a summer of links to Jude Bellingham and Mathues Nunes - and this one is a new report.

Jurgen Klopp is reportedly 'obsessed' with Real Madrid's Federico Valverde - the player who assisted the winning goal in the Champions League final against Liverpool.

Latest reports on Federico Valverde

According to Spanish newspaper Nacional, via football365.com, Klopp has welcomed the signing of Valverde.

The German manager is reportedly ‘obsessed’ with the 24-year-old midfielder and Liverpool are willing to ‘pay whatever it takes’ to bring Valverde to Merseyside.

His current value is at £63m and his current deal runs until 2027 meaning any potential deal will not be cheap.

Despite that, the 24-year-old is not a guaranteed starter at Madrid and has had issues with manager Carlo Ancelotti in the past.

Furthermore, Los Blancos have signed Eduardo Camavinga and former Liverpool target Aurélien Tchouaméni this summer who are likely to receive game time over the Uruguayan.

It's likely he will feature as a rotation player with the trio of Casimero, Toni Kroos and Luka Modric all still going strong.

Where would he fit in Liverpool's midfield?

The energetic midfielder would be tailor-made for Liverpool's midfield.

All of his qualities - dribbling, pace, energy, aggression and technical ability - would all lend themselves to this high-intensity blueprint that Klopp stands by.

Still only 24, he could lead Liverpool's midfield with Fabinho for years to come, supported by the young talents of Fabio Carvalho and Harvey Elliot.

The Reds may look to him as a potential cheaper Jude Bellingham alternative next summer.
