Former PL player claims Liverpool should have signed £31M midfielder - would have been 'perfect' for Liverpool

Liverpool have been told by a former Premier League player that they should have signed £31M midfielder who would have been 'perfect' for them.

The Reds have opted not to move in the market, despite up to four injuries in central midfield and now the club is struggling.

With results on the pitch looking bleak as well, the club is in a difficult place, and the fans are piling on the pressure every day on social media, hoping the club will move for a midfielder.

Looking at players who have already moved, former PL player Stephen Warnock believes Yves Bissouma, who signed for Spurs for £25M, was a 'perfect' option for Liverpool.

Bissouma, 25, was one of Brighton's best players and had spent years learning under Graham Potter and developed into one of the best midfield prospects in the league.

Whilst big clubs were keeping tabs on the Malian international, Liverpool opted not to move for him as (according to National News Sport) the Reds could have signed those players but the club rejected the offers they received for the trio.

Plus, they did not want to sign new players who will start out at the higher end of the wage bill.

Now valued at £31M, the Reds may wish they took a chance on the former Brighton man.

But former PL player Warnock thinks differently and looking at how things have developed with injuries, perhaps he is right.

"One of the guys who stands out for me was obviously Yves Bissouma, who went to Tottenham for the fee that they paid for him. I think he would have been perfect for Liverpool," Warnock told BBC Sport.

His price of £25m, plus his age and versatility in a two or three-man midfield would have made him the perfect foil in this Liverpool side.

Statistically, he shines defensively; registering between the 83rd-91st percentiles for tackles, interceptions, blocks and clearances. But going the other way, he's in the 91st and 92nd percentiles for dribbles completed and pass completion (%) - he can also keep the ball and progress it up the pitch.

He would have slotted perfectly into their midfield as either a lone defensive midfielder or a box-to-box midfielder playing a similar role to that of former Red Georginio Wijnaldum.
