Liverpool's €100M target has proven exactly why Klopp fought so hard for him - he's incredible

Liverpool pushed hard for their €100M midfield target this summer and he's now proving why Jurgen Klopp fought so hard for him.

The Reds were all in for Monaco's Aurelien Tchouameni this summer but, unfortunately, lost out to Real Madrid as Los Blancos paid €100M to secure his signature.

Fans were dismayed over the club's choice not to move for another midfielder after failing to secure the Frenchman, with Arthur Melo coming in on deadline day as a last-minute addition to help boost their midfield.

However, Tchouameni's start to the season has been exceptional, as he has taken over from the former midfield anchor Casemiro proving exactly Klopp fought so hard to sign the talented midfield star.

Aurelien Tchouameni proves why Liverpool wanted him - if only Liverpool signed him

People are already seeing as a player who can be a titan in their midfield for "years to come". Still only 22, he should be a leading player for club and country for years to come.

He would have been the perfect option for, not only Liverpool, but certainly any midfield world football - he's that good and the stats show it.

His all-round qualities, both defensively and attacking wise stand out - but he ranks in the 99th percentile for interceptions and is an absolute master at cutting out passes.

Long-term, he may even step further forward in midfield to replicate what Toni Kroos or Luka Modric have done for this Madrid team.

He has the ability to play as a number eight and he's joined by the likes of Eduardo Camavinga and Federico Valverde - both of whom are young, progressive and versatile players who can do both roles.

It's safe to say their midfield is set for years to come - the same can't be said about Liverpool...

Tchouameni was the right target - but what now?

Given that Liverpool chased him for months, it's fair to say he was their number one target and that they had all their eggs in that basket. The attention has now turned to Jude Bellingham, who Liverpool did enquire about only to be told that he would be staying for another year.

A lot of talk has been about the young Englishman who continues to go from strength to strength as one of Borussia Dortmund's best players.

Jamie Carragher was quoted as saying that Liverpool hadn't signed anyone this summer because they 'must have someone in mind' for next summer. As a major figure in football media, I'm sure he also believes that it is Bellingham the club has in mind.

He won't come cheap and it's likely they will have to go toe-to-toe with Madrid once again for a major midfield target and that could spell trouble given the pull of Madrid.
