"From top to bottom": Jamie Carragher makes worrying claim about Klopp and FSG

Jamie Carragher claims that Jurgen Klopp is running Liverpool Football Club "from top to bottom" after losing key personnel within his recruitment team with three different sporting directors occupying the role in the last 18 months.

The Kop icon took to Twitter on Monday to lament Liverpool's pursuit of Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia, labelling the affair "embarassing" and urging the Reds to either pay the £50 million Saints want or move.

The 19-year-old "really wants" to join Liverpool but after they had a third bid of 45m rejected on Monday, the situation is concerning fans with the Premier League season set to begin this weekend.

Gary Neville, likely in an attempt to wind up his Sky Sports colleague, asked Carra if he now admits that Jurgen Klopp has been shielding Fenway Sports Group over the last six years.

To this, Carragher responded with something of a rant about the current state of Liverpool.

Concerningly, he notes that amid the turbulence in the sporting director role over the last year has led to Klopp having increased responsibility and is now running the club from "top to bottom."

Are Liverpool in trouble in the transfer market?

Michael Edwards, the famed architect of Klopp's first great Liverpool side, left the club upon the expiry of his contract in June 2022. He was succeeded by Julian Ward but he too left, vacating his role at the end of last season.

His replacement, Jorg Schmadtke, has signed Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai this summer but no transfer miracles were worked as Liverpool paid £95m combined by triggering their respective release clauses.

The fiasco with Lavia and Southampton is a worrying trend in recent transfer windows where Liverpool have dawdled and wasted precious time to sign suitable targets efficiently.

This boils down to Liverpool's self-sustaining model in the transfer market but with clubs fully aware of the Reds' urgent situation, the likes of Southampton, RB Leipzig and Brighton are able to stand firm and demand the full market value for their players.

As they should. The issue this creates for Liverpool is that with just under a month left to complete all business, they are in need of three signings. Two in midfield and once in defence although there is no telling when these deals will be completed.
