"It’s not his fault": Harvey Elliot absolves Darwin Nunez of blame and shows incredible maturity

Liverpool's Harvey Elliot has come out in support of his teammate Darwin Nunez following his dismissal for a red card on Monday night.

The Reds stumbled to back-to-back draws in the Premier League as Crystal Palace frustrated the Anfield faithful with a 1-1 draw on Monday night.

It was a game made all the more frustrating because of Nunez's red card which was ultimately a moment of madness from the new £85m signing.

Fans, pundits and players have all come out to give their opinion on the incident, with Elliot choosing to back his teammate.

Comments about Nunez red card

"We’re instantly around him trying to lift him up. Obviously, he’s very down in the changing room feeling sorry for the team and thinking it’s his fault, which it’s not, it’s all of our faults.

An ex-Liverpool player also came out in defence of Nunez, posting a highly criticised claim that Nunez didn't do anything wrong.

Dietmar Hamann, former Liverpool player and Champions League winner, downplayed the incident claiming it wasn't a 'proper' headbutt.

“I think he just walked into him,” he said on talkSPORT Breakfast the morning after the game.

"It wasn’t even a headbutt, he just walked into the defender Andersen.

“If it was a proper headbutt I can understand it, to extend the ban, but he just walked into him, three games is enough.”

Although he did retract his comments so to speak, claiming, “Yes you shouldn’t do it, we all agree he shouldn’t do it.”
