Andy Robertson Facing 3-4 Months Out After Dislocated Shoulder

Liverpool star Andy Robertson was injured during Scotland's 2-0 win over Spain and is now a doubt for the Merseyside club's upcoming fixtures. The extent of his injury is not yet known but initial claims indicate it will be a long term layoff for the 29-year-old.

The Liverpool defender was withdrawn from the match following a nasty fall involving Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon. He reportedly suffered a shoulder dislocation and is now facing an extended spell on the sidelines.

Robertson is due to return to Liverpool today for a scan to determine the extent of the injury, according to The Athletic's James Pearce. Until a scan has been conducted, there is no accurate way to judge the severity of the injury but it's a worrying turn of events for Jurgen Klopp.

Steve Clarke, Scotland's manager, expressed concern over the loss of players in the same position, mentioning the recent injury of Kieran Tierney before Robertson's incident. Clarke hopes for a quick recovery for both players ahead of Scotland's matches in November.

The 60-year-old said: "It was an immediate decision to take him off, he'll go back to his club, he'll be assessed.

"Obviously he's hurt his shoulder. We'll have a look, obviously go back to his club. Always seems to happens when you lose one player in a position: we lose Kieran on the left side and then Andy's picked up a shoulder injury.

"We'll see how it is, see how it settles down and hopefully he's good for his club as quickly as possible and he's ready to help us in November."

Andy Robertson injury timeline revealed by physio

The Liverpool defender is set for an extended spell on the sidelines, according to the Physio Scout on Twitter, and if a scan reveals the need for surgery, he could only be back in the New Year. While Kostas Tsimikas is a talented player and capable understudy, losing Robertson ahead of the festive fixture list is a major blow for the Reds.

If the defender has suffered "minimal structural damage" and doesn't need surgery to repair it, he will likely only spend 2-4 weeks out. This is likely the best case scenario for Liverpool given the nature of shoulder injuries.

However, if the surgery is required to repair ligament damage, he could only return to Jurgen Klopp's side in 3-4 months. This would rule him out until January or February, meaning he's played his last game in 2023.

If he missed four months, he could miss up to 21 Liverpool fixtures but if Robbo is back in a month's time, he will only miss seven games. It's a major difference but underlines why the club is so worried.
