Liverpool are set to complete a few massive deals in the coming days, which will change the outlook of the squad next season. However, they are set to miss out on a top target due to Newcastle United’s lightning-quick move to sign him this summer.
Sporting director Richard Hughes has been a busy man ahead of the summer as he looks to complete several deals over the next few days to improve the title-winning squad.
However, the Liverpool deal maker has other market priorities as well, and the club are still in the market for a top centre-back to improve their defence ahead of next season.
A top defender has been on Liverpool’s radar since last year, but Newcastle seem to be moving to beat them to the signature of the centre-back in the upcoming transfer window.

Newcastle United make swift move for long-term Liverpool target

Marc Guehi is expected to leave Crystal Palace this summer despite suggestions that Real Madrid are encouraging him to run down his contract and join them next year on a free transfer.
He has been a long-term target for Liverpool, and even Tottenham are considering signing him after achieving Champions League qualification.
However, Newcastle believe they have the edge in the race to sign the defender, and according to the Daily Telegraph, they are set to open talks with Crystal Palace imminently.
They failed with five bids for him last summer, and do not want to waste any time rekindling their pursuit of the England defender in the upcoming transfer window.
Armed with Champions League football, Newcastle believe they will be able to convince Guehi to snub other interests to move to St. James’ Park this summer.
Palace are likely to sell if they receive a fee in the region of £45m to £50m.
