Newcastle send strong warning to Liverpool over transfer

Liverpool are tracking multiple targets ahead of the summer transfer window.

The reds continue their push for a treble this season. Liverpool face Paris Saint-Germain in the first leg of their Champions League knockout clash. Arne Slot’s side are away on Wednesday night. PSG are on an incredible run; the French side have scored 21 goals in their last four games. Liverpool come into the fixture off of the back of big wins against Manchester City and Newcastle in the Premier League.

Wednesday night will see two of the top sides in Europe face off. The winner of the tie will certainly be a favourite to win the competition. Arne Slot could start the charge for the treble next weekend in the League Cup final. Liverpool could win their first trophy of the season against Newcastle.

Newcastle send warning to Liverpool

Speaking of Newcastle, reports emerged this week that Liverpool are targeting Alexander Isak. The Swedish striker has 19 goals this season. He is expected to be available this summer. Isak has reportedly made it clear he wants to play Champions League football next season. The Magpies may qualify for Europe, but it is expected that Isak will leave in the summer. Liverpool are in contact with the 25-year old’s representatives to discuss a possible move.

Newcastle chief Executive Darren Eales has made it clear that the club will not lose their best players in the upcoming window. Bruno Guimaraes, Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon have all been linked with moves away from St. James’ Park. Eales insists that the team are in a strong position and will not need to sell their stars to keep afloat:

“They’re all under long-term contracts. We have no intention at all of those players being moved on. We’re not under the gun or anything like that,” Eales said.

“As you know, we’ve got an ownership that is ambitious and wants the best for the club. So from that perspective, it would be crazy for us to consider it.”

The Magpies executive added that there is a chance that Isak renews his contract with the club this summer.

“He [Isak] has multi years left [on his Newcastle contract] so as with all of these things, we will have the discussions in terms of a new deal just like we did with Joelinton, Bruno [Guimaraes], or Anthony Gordon. That’s something that we will approach in the summer,”

Newcastle will be reluctant to sell Isak, but a bid in excess of  £150million may convince the club.
