Liverpool’s newest wonderkid, Rio Ngumoha, is poised to make his debut for the Reds this weekend, following his move from Chelsea’s academy.
According to The Athletic, the young talent trained with Liverpool’s senior side this week, taking advantage of the international break with many first-team players away.
Manager Arne Slot used the opportunity to assess some of the club’s younger prospects, and Ngumoha was among those given a chance to impress.
Ngumoha, a highly-rated teenager, has been described as having immense potential by both Chelsea and Liverpool.
Former Chelsea captain John Terry recently praised the youngster, saying on Instagram: “This boy is and will be a top player,” as he reacted to Ngumoha’s switch to Anfield.
The anticipation surrounding the young star is building, and fans won’t have to wait long to see him in action.
Rio Ngumoha set for Liverpool debut
Ngumoha is expected to make his first appearance for Liverpool this Saturday, lining up for the Under-18s in a match against Blackburn Rovers at home.
While it’s still early in his development, the excitement surrounding the 17-year-old is palpable. This approach mirrors how Liverpool handled the arrival of Harvey Elliott, who quickly moved through the ranks after starting at a lower level.
The hope is that Ngumoha will prove he’s above U18s level in short order, potentially progressing to the U21s soon. Should he continue on this trajectory, the prospect of a senior debut may not be far off, though Slot’s approach to young talents remains to be seen. While Jurgen Klopp was known for giving youth players early chances, it’s uncertain if Slot will do the same.
For now, all eyes are on Ngumoha’s debut at youth level this weekend, marking the first step in what many hope will be a bright future at Anfield.
