Liverpool are eyeing replacement for their big three.
With months left till the end of the season, the reds are planning a huge transfer window. Liverpool suffered a disappointing set of results two weeks ago. The reds lost to Paris Saint-Germain at Anfield in the Champions League, and were knocked out on penalties. Later that same week, Liverpool faced Newcastle in the League Cup final.
It was Arne Slot’s first chance at silverware this season. However, it went off to a poor start as Dan Burn gave Newcastle the lead in the first half. Alexander Isak doubled the advantage before Federico Chiesa pulled one back, but it was too late to change the result. Both losses exposed Liverpool’s weaknesses this season.

Arne Slot has done a fantastic job with the current squad. The former Feyenoord boss managed to use the squad well, but in recent weeks, the team has failed him. After injuries to the likes of Conor Bradley and Cody Gakpo, the available replacements were not good enough. Nothing showed the state of Liverpool’s squad depth more than in the second leg against Paris Saint-Germain. When the French side needed a goal, they brought on Goncalo Ramos and Desire Doue, while the reds brought on Curtis Jones and Wataru Endo.
Liverpool know that the club needs a huge revamp, and have already began on plans for the upcoming window. The reds could lose three of their best players this summer. Virgil Van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah are all out of contract at the end of the season.
Arne Slot and Richard Hughes will be active ahead of this summer. Liverpool will reportedly prioritize signing a defender and a striker. According to Sacha Tavolieri, Bayer Leverkusen star Jeremie Frimpong has been highlighted as a key target. Liverpool see Frimpong as an ideal replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold especially with the Dutch international’s attacking instincts. Michael Edwards will leverage his good relationship with Leverkusen to sort out the deal. Frimpong will be valued around €50million.
Frimpong is a solid addition
Jeremie Frimpong is one of the most productive wingbacks in Europe this season. He has four goals and five assists in the Bundesliga this season. There will be questions of if he can play as an orthodox fullback, but he has played in that role in his Celtic days. Liverpool will not really find an upgrade if Trent Alexander-Arnold leaves, but Frimpong is a very good replacement.
