Liverpool were so good against Manchester United that Bruno Fernandes asked to be substituted while his side was 6-0 down.

In one of their most destructive performances of all time, Liverpool beat their rivals United 7-0, denting their confidence and gaining ground in the race for Champions League qualification.

Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez were on fire.

Each player scored a brace while Roberto Firmino got in on the fun with a goal of his own.

While Liverpool were brilliant, expressive and relentless, Man Utd were sloppy, obnoxious and simply stopped trying to play football early in the second half.

According to Gary Neville, Bruno Fernandes asked to be substituted at 6-0 and after he spent his evening kicking Liverpool players with little other contribution, the Anfield faithful would have been delighted to see him hooked.

On commentary duties, Neville said: "Bruno Fernandes is stood in the centre circle with his arms raised asking: ‘Why is it me not coming off?'.

"Honestly, I have to say some of his behaviour in the second half has been a disgrace."

While Klopp's midfield selection of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Harvey Elliott was questioned before kickoff, they vindicated the manager's choice with a ruthless display.

There were occasions when United found space in the middle of the park but Fernandes, Fred and Casemiro couldn't handle the movement and creativity of Elliott in particular.

The diminutive midfielder regularly found pockets of space in which he could combine with Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

It was Gakpo that gave Liverpool the edge though. As a false nine, it was his job to drop into midfield to win the numerical advantage in the engine room.

That was effective enough but his late runs into the box from a midfield position were the nail in the coffin for United.

On either flank, they had Darwin Nunez and Salah to contend with while Elliott and Gakpo surged through the middle in support of every Liverpool attack.
