Man United stun Liverpool and Newcastle with £40m hijack of England star

Liverpool have made a few early moves in the transfer window to sort out deals ahead of the summer transfer window. However, the Reds are set to get a rude awakening as Manchester United are pushing to sign one of their long-term targets this summer.

Arne Slot and sporting director Richard Hughes have settled on a few priorities for the summer, and the club are working according to the plan they have already formalised.

Jeremie Frimpong is set to arrive to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, and the club are still looking to bring in at least a centre-back, a left-back and a top striker in the upcoming transfer window.

However, Manchester United have made their move on a long-term target Liverpool have been keen to sign since last year, and are pushing to get a deal over the line.

Manchester United move for a top defender

Marc Guehi captained Crystal Palace to their first major trophy at the weekend when they beat Manchester City to win the FA Cup.

However, with only a year left on his contract, and several big clubs chasing him, it was probably his last big game in a Palace shirt.

Liverpool still hold an interest in Guehi, but Newcastle United are leading the race to sign him this summer after failing with multiple bids last year.

However, according to TEAMTalk, Manchester United have barged into the race and have made enquiries into signing the centre-back this summer.

They are keen to add one more defender to their squad with Victor Lindelof set to leave on a free transfer, and want someone with Premier League experience like Guehi.

They are likely to become massive favourites to sign him if they win the Europa League tonight and qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Serie A giants Inter Milan are also interested in a player who is likely to be sold this summer for a fee in the region of £40m.
