Liverpool have moved fast ahead of the summer to secure deals early and get their transfer plans up and running even before the season ends. However, the Reds are now faced with the choice of whether to overpay for a player who has been on their radar for months.
Sporting director Richard Hughes has made some quick moves to ensure Liverpool are prepared for the transfer window as soon as the current season ends.
Jeremie Frimpong is certain to arrive from Bayer Leverkusen to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold, and a move for Milos Kerkez is underway despite interest from Manchester City.
However, Liverpool do not want to overpay for certain targets, and that is exactly what they might be forced to do if they want to nab a top young player from France this summer.

Rayan Cherki is expected to leave Lyon this summer after a stellar season, and he only has a year left on his contract.
Manchester United, Newcastle United, Tottenham and Crystal Palace are interested in signing him, but the attacking midfielder wants to join Liverpool.
A move for him made sense as he was only available for a fee of £19m asking price, but according to L’Equipe, Lyon are set to ask almost double the money.
With so many clubs chasing the 21-year-old attacking midfielder, Lyon believe they can get as much as £34m from his departure in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Liverpool are interested in Cherki, but it is unclear whether they would be prepared to pay such a figure for a Ligue 1 player who only has a year left in his contract.
The Reds would want to negotiate down that price if they move for the France Under-21 star this summer.
