Magpies coach fires warning over Reds target

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has warned that Liverpool target Anthony Gordon is not for sale.

Anthony Gordon has been linked to the Reds all summer despite no official bid from the club. Eddie Howe said in the press conference that Newcastle will fight to keep their best players at the club. Gordon has yet to feature in pre season for the Magpies after he played for England during EURO 2024 this summer.

Howe fires warning over Gordon

The Magpies coach spoke on Newcastle’s transfer business this summer, stating that the club are intent on keeping their stars while improving the team. He had this to say about Anthony Gordon:

“His mind is on Newcastle, He has been exceptional, focused on his work, fitness, everything to do with this football club. No distractions.”

Howe also spoke on other transfer dealings at the club, stating his willingness to ‘fight’ to keep star players:

“So I won’t talk about individual players but naturally, with incomings there will be outgoings as well.

“What I mean by that, I don’t mean literally everyone has a ‘For Sale’ sign on their head. We are still in a position where Financial Fair Play will affect our decision making. No, we want to keep our best players, and we will fight tooth and nail to do that.”

Bruno Guimaraes, Anthony Gordon, Kieran Trippier and Alexander Isak have all been linked with moves away from Tyneside.

Gordon seen as the future of Reds’ attack

With the departure of Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino over the past few seasons, the club has struggled to find viable replacements. Luis Diaz has been inconsistent, Cody Gakpo has shown promising signs and there are still question marks over Darwin Nunez.

Anthony Gordon is seen as a player that can help fix Liverpool’s attack. The winger had 11 goals and 10 assists in the Premier League last season and made the England squad for EURO 2024.

Arne Slot says Liverpool waiting for the ‘right players’

Earlier this summer, Liverpool’s new coach Arne Slot claimed that he would look at the squad before making any decisions in the transfer window. He also emphasized that the club would only sign the right players:

“If you inherit a team that’s really good, it’s not so easy to find players who are even higher especially because those ones need to be available as well. Richard more than me is working really hard on that. He keeps me updated on that.

“If there’s any news on that we will come to you. We already have a good team, but it would be a surprise for all of us if we don’t bring any player in. That will probably happen in the end. For now, we’re just waiting for the players to come back and the right ones to sign.”

Liverpool are yet to sign a senior first team player this summer despite being linked with EURO 2024 winner Martin Zubimendi.
