Liverpool target Maximilian Beier has reportedly rejected a move to Merseyside as he is set to join Borussia Dortmund.
According to German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Beier has chosen not to move to England this summer despite being a top target for the Reds.
Liverpool have given new coach Arne Slot the whole of preseason to assess the squad and analysed if replacements must be brought in. So it is reported that the Reds will be very active towards the end of the transfer window.
Midfield has been the focus; with interest in Martin Zubimendi and now Maximilian Beier. The Reds lost Thiago Alcantara this summer and are looking to add depth to their midfield.
German journalist explains Maximilian Beier’s decision
Plettenberg broke down the situation and explained how Maximilian Beier ended up snubbing Liverpool:
“FC Liverpool have never lost their focus on Maximilian Beier,”
“There were talks in recent days and weeks! But we‘ve been told again today: Beier has clearly decided to join Borussia Dortmund over all other options.
“Process ongoing to reach the total agreement between BVB and Beier. After that, Dortmund will open the negotiations with Hoffenheim.”
Maximilian Beier described as Germany’s next great talent
Maximilian Beier burst onto the scene last season, scoring 16 Bundesliga goals for Hoffenheim. He earned a spot in Germany’s EURO 2024 squad and has been earmarked as one of the best talents in the country.
German Legend Miroslav Klose described Beier as a ‘quality player’:
“I played against him in my first years as FC Bayern’s U17 coach and his qualities were immediately apparent. He runs an incredible amount, works for the team and rewards himself with goals. I’m sure Julian Nagelsmann has him on his radar.“
Beier’s Coach also called him a natural goalscorer:
“Above all, it is important for him to even get into positions from which he can shoot. He can manage that thanks to his dynamism and technique. You either have those genes or you don’t, and Maxi has those genes to score goals.”
Liverpool’s midfield options
Assuming Liverpool miss out on Maximilian Beier, their senior first team midfielders are Alexis MacAllister, Harvey Elliott, Curtis Jones, Ryan Gravenberch and Wataru Endo.
Slot has trusted Dominik Szoboszlai with a more attacking role this season, and Endo is reportedly not rated highly by the head coach.
The highest scoring midfielder for the Reds last season was MacAllister with 5 goals, it explains why the team are looking at Beier who proved very prolific in front of goal last season.
Liverpool now have to divert their attention to another midfield target.
