Liverpool took a huge step in their quest for the Champions League.
The reds are on the path to winning the treble at the end of the season. Liverpool already have a 13-point gap on top of the Premier League. Their big wins over Manchester City and Newcastle capitalized on Arsenal dropping points in their last two games. Arne Slot has his first chance of winning a trophy in the League Cup final next weekend. Another result at Anfield next week sees Liverpool through to the next round of the Champions League.
Slot and Liverpool came away from Paris with a crucial win on Wednesday night. PSG midfielder Vitinha promised that his team would secure a win in England.

The first half of the game was not one Arne Slot would like to relive. Liverpool were battered in the first 45 minutes and only a marginal offside call prevented them from going a goal down early in the game. PSG felt they should have had a penalty when Ibrahima Konate seemed to have pushed Bradley Barcola in the box. Konate called the incident ”soft” after the game.
Alisson made nine saves to keep Liverpool in the game on Wednesday night. Harvey Elliot scored three minutes to the end of the game to seal a 1-0 win. PSG boss Luis Enrique said his team deserved to have won the game:
“I don’t think it’s too difficult to analyse tonight’s game. We were far superior to Liverpool. We created more chances and produced a complete performance against one of Europe’s top sides. Football can be unfair at times.
“Without a doubt [they can go through]. We’ve only played the first leg. We’re a side with nothing to lose. If we can replicate tonight’s performance, we can qualify.”
PSG had 27 shots while Liverpool had just two on the night.
What Arne Slot said
Liverpool boss Arne Slot on the other hand says his team were not bad during the game. Their second half performance was much better than how they played in the first half:
”No, no – we were not under par. It’s purely the quality of Paris Saint-Germain and the way they’ve played this whole season. I can say it one more time, all of the underlying stats show you that they were the best team in Europe until now – except for the league table, but they’ve had Arsenal, they’ve played Bayern Munich, they’ve played Atletico Madrid and they’ve played Manchester City and they still have the best underlying stats.”
