Fabrizio Romano says “fans shouldn’t worry” because of “the plan”: Reds are “preparing proposals to sign a new striker”

Fabrizio Romano

Liverpool shouldn’t worry about Sadio Mane leaving this summer because, with his exit lined up, the Reds are “preparing proposals” to sign a new striker this summer.

That’s according to Fabrizio Romano, who has attempted to help Liverpool fans stop stressing about Mane, who has scored 120 goals for the Reds.

It’s a difficult thing to do but Romano says Liverpool are getting ready to make proposals to potential new forwards to replace Mane.

The Senegalese forward is 30 and heading into the twilight of his career but he still has a lot to offer.

Which is why Bayern Munich are working so hard to sign him.

That said, their initial offer was rejected with the Bavarians only fronting £21million guaranteed with an extra £4million in add-ons making up a total bid of £25million.

It was understandably dismissed.

Speaking on his Here We Go podcast, Romano said: “Liverpool fans shouldn’t worry because the plan is to sign one more striker.

“Luis Diaz is doing fantastic but he is not linked to Sadio Mane’s future.

“If Sadio Mane leaves the club this summer, Liverpool are preparing proposals to sign a new striker this summer.”

Replacing Mane is going to be one of the most important moves from the Reds in the transfer market since they signed Virgil van Dijk.

Whoever comes in will likely not have the same transformative impact that van Dijk when he joined from Southampton.

But the importance of ensuring there is no drop off from what Mane achieved this season is the key.

Someone like Darwin Nunez would be fantastic although he will need to work on his link up play much like Diogo Jota.

For them, goals are not the issue rather what they offer outside the box is.

Signing Christopher Nkunku would a great move but he’s not an out and out striker and Liverpool need someone whose main focus is finding the back of the net.

There’s also the worry that Nkunku wouldn’t be able to translate his elite form this season to the Premier League.

That goes for Nunez too. The Uruguayan scored 34 goals this season but playing in Liga Nos is nothing like the Premier League.

Nkunku got 35 goals and 20 assists for RB Leipzig this season – an incredible return of 55 goal contributions.

What makes the Frenchman appealing to me is the fact that he got 7 goals and 2 assists in 6 Champions League appearances before Leipzig were eliminated.

He scored a hattick against Manchester City in the first game of the UCL season, with the score ending 6-3 to City.
