Caoimhín Kelleher has ‘indicated’ that he will decide on his Liverpool future in the ‘coming weeks’, according to the Independent.ie.
The 23-year-old was fantastic for Liverpool in the cups this season, playing a particularly key role in the Carabao Cup win.
However, keeping as talented a goalkeeper as Kelleher on the bench is always going to be a tricky job – which is why he started the final of the Carabao Cup.
Alisson was left on the bench to reward Kelleher for his stunning displays throughout the tournament as Liverpool looked to keep him happy.
While there has been very little indication to date that he is unhappy at Liverpool, recent quotes suggest he could leave the club.
He said: “I’m not sure on what’s happening yet. I’m still finishing this season and then we will have conversations after that to see what happens.”
When asked about whether he is tempted by a move away from Anfield, he replied: “I’m not sure yet.
“Obviously I need to play these few games and see what happens with these and maybe decide after that.”
According to the Independent.ie, Kelleher will hold talks with Liverpool over his future.
In my view, it could be good to let Kelleher leave on loan to gain some more experience and to develop but who would be Liverpool’s no.2?
Adrian? I don’t think so. The Spaniard has shown that he’s not good enough to be Alisson’s cover and the drop-off in quality when he plays is massive.
Liverpool need to be open-minded in talks with their 23-year-old shotstopper but if letting Kelleher go on loan hurts the Reds’ chances of success, then Klopp should say no.
Marcelo Pitaluga could step up but he’s still only 19 which is very young for a senior goalkeeper.
