Liverpool are in pole position to sign Calvin Ramsay and with a decision to be made in the coming week, they lead Newcastle United.
It is expected that Aberdeen will decide Calvin Ramsay’s next destination this week with Liverpool leading the race, Football Scotland reports.
Fabio Carvalho – 19.
Calvin Ramsay – 18.
Gavi – 17.
There is a clear trend with some of the names linked with moves to Liverpool recently.
Fabio Carvalho is Liverpool’s first summer acquisition and Ramsay could be the second.
The Reds want to add youth to their squad to prepare for the inevitable exodus of the club’s older players in the next few years.
Liverpool have eight players that are 30 or older with Mohamed Salah set to turn 30 later this month and Alisson Becker in October.
While players often peak in their 30s, the fall off from the very top of their careers can often be quite rapid and so clubs have to ensure they are preparing for the future.
Klopp’s squad also has some very young players in it already.
Harvey Elliott is 19.
Curtis Jones is 21.
Then there’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ibrahima Konate, who are both 23.
Adding Calvin Ramsay to the squad this summer would add another talented player with a bright future to the squad and help Liverpool in terms of squad depth.
He may be tipped for big things but there’s no displacing Trent Alexander-Arnold whoever you are.
That said, he will give Klopp the ability to rotate a natural right back in and out of the side when he pleases.
