Euro 2024 winner Martin Zubimendi reportedly has no interest in leaving Spain this summer according to HITC. The midfielder has been subject to a lot of Premier League interest this summer after his performances at the Euros.
Among the major suitors were Liverpool and Manchester United. Both clubs are looking for midfield reinforcements this summer.
Liverpool lost Thiago Alcantara, who retired from football after leaving the club on a free. The Reds’ current midfield options currently lack a player like Zubimendi who sits and dictates at the base of midfield.
Manchester United are also a team whose midfield is in need of options as they look to offload multiple first team players this summer. Scott McTominay, Casemiro and Christian Eriksen have all been linked with moves away from Old Trafford. United would need a quality addition, with Zubimendi an ideal target.
The 25-year old caught the eyes of the world during the EURO 2024 final. He came on as a half time substitute for Manchester City star Rodri, and played a key part in the second half as Spain won the final against England.
He came and didn’t miss a step as the Spaniard dictated the flow of the game, dragging the England midfield out of place with his passing and movement. Zubimendi gained a lot of plaudits from fans and pundits al
Spaniard has ‘World Class’ quality
Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney described Zubimendi as a “world class player” during his time on loan at Real Sociedad. Hinting his quality will suit Premier League clubs:
“I was up against Take Kubo in the first couple of weeks training, so to see how sharp he is struck me,” said Tierney. “You have world-class players like [Martín] Zubimendi, [Mikel] Merino, Brais [Méndez]. It’s not that people don’t think they’re good; it’s just that if you’re only watching the Premier League every week, it’s hard to know. They’re world class, and for so many to come from the academy is incredible,” he added.
Manchester United are also in the race
However, the report claims that Zubimendi is happy at Real Sociedad and is not keen on leaving this summer. HITC reports that both Liverpool and United sent intermediaries to get in touch, but the feedback they received was not positive.
Spanish players have been on the move since the end of EURO 2024; Robin Le Normand, and Alvaro Morata changed clubs while Dani Olmo is set to complete a move to FC Barcelona.
