According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are open to selling Fabio Carvalho, with Southampton in pole position to make a move for the midfielder. However the caveat here, according to GiveMeSport is that Liverpool will be looking for a substantial fee in order to part ways with the 21-year-old.
Carvalho spent the second half of the 2023/24 season in the Championship after joining Hull City on loan in January. Before moving to the Tigers, he had only featured in 13 games at Liverpool. To his credit, the Portuguese youngster ended the season strongly, with 9 goals and 2 assists in 20 games in the Championship.
Arne Slot has taken a liking to Carvalho in pre-season, the midfielder has featured in all of the games and has scored two goals against Arsenal and Manchester United. The 21-year-old has featured on the right flank during the pre-season tour, and has a tough task to nail down a first-team place in the upcoming season.
Fabio Carvalho wants to stay at Liverpool
Despite the links with a move away and his lack of game-time since joining Liverpool, Carvalho wants to stay at the Reds and prove himself this season, believing he can push into the first team.
Speaking to the Express, he said: “Every footballer wants to be playing week in and week out and I feel I got the best of myself when I was there [at Hull] and playing,”
“That’s the target, to stay here. I’m just having fun and enjoying the time that I’m here, and learning a lot of new things. That’s the most important thing.”
Southampton have already had a bid of £15 million rejected, and are expected to be back with an improved offer. Liverpool are said to prefer a permanent move for Carvalho, and will not entertain any loan offers.
The midfielder will stay put for now, but if the Saints can come up with a fee Liverpool are looking for, a chance at first-team football in the Premier League may be too tempting to refuse.
