Anfield bombshell – Liverpool open to selling title-winning favourite

Liverpool are reportedly open to selling one of their most beloved title-winning players, sending shockwaves through the fanbase. With a summer overhaul expected, this surprise decision marks a bold shift in strategy under the club’s new leadership.

The Premier League champions have shown this summer that they are not willing to stand still and have already spent upwards of £180m on Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez respectively.

Liverpool are prepared to spend more money to recruit a centre-back, a striker and a winger before the end of the window, but there are now growing fears that one of their top stars could leave in the coming weeks

Arne Slot wants to keep the flock together, but the club have been forced to consider the prospect of selling one of their most important players in the ongoing transfer window.

The Reds are open to selling Ibrahima Konate

Ibrahima Konate has rejected Liverpool’s initial contract offer and has only one year remaining on his current deal with the club.

Liverpool are now wary that the defender could run down his current contract and leave on a free transfer at the end of next season.

According to Football Insider, the Merseyside giants are now prepared to listen to offers for the defender if he doesn’t sign a new contract soon.

Liverpool are ready to accept bids in the region of £40m and £50m for Konate rather than watch him walk on a free transfer at the end of next season.

Konate’s priority is to stay at Liverpool, but he wants the club to offer him a more lucrative contract and is prepared to leave this summer or next.

Liverpool have already sold Jarell Quansah, and Konate’s leaving would leave a massive gap in the squad ahead of next season.

Liverpool are running out of options

The Premier League champions cannot afford a repeat of the Trent Alexander-Arnold saga with Konate throughout the 2025/26 campaign.

They need the defender to either sign a contract or leave for a fee in the ongoing transfer window.

Konate was a huge player for Liverpool last season, but they are in no mood to let one more player run down a contract and leave at the end of next season.

Real Madrid are eyeing him on a free transfer next summer, but Paris Saint-Germain are prepared to offer him an exit route this year.

The French champions will have no problem matching Liverpool’s asking price if the Frenchman decides to leave and return to his hometown this summer.

Liverpool have their eyes on signing Marc Guehi, and the England defender could replace Konate in the starting eleven at the start of next season.

It seems certain that the France international will either sign a new contract or leave the club in the ongoing window.
