Newcastle eye shock deal for Liverpool star who is an ideal Eddie Howe target

Newcastle United are reportedly targeting a Liverpool player who is considered an ideal fit for Eddie Howe and his tactical approach. With the summer transfer window heating up, the Magpies are believed to be preparing a surprise move to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2025/26 season.

Liverpool have already spent upwards of £180m in the ongoing transfer window and will now focus on sales before trying to bring in more players later in the summer.

Jarell Quansah is on the cusp of joining Bayer Leverkusen for a fee of £35m, and the Premier League champions are waiting for concrete offers for a few more players.

Newcastle are now eyeing making a move to snare a top Liverpool star away from Anfield as he is viewed as the ideal fit for manager Eddie Howe and his tactical approach.

Eddie Howe wants to take Liverpool star to Newcastle

Harvey Elliott wants to play more football next season and is eyeing a move away from Anfield after starring in England Under-21s’ European Championship triumph.

Journalist Graeme Bailey has revealed Newcastle have an active interest in signing the Liverpool attacking midfielder in the ongoing transfer window.

He stressed that Elliott is seen as a perfect fit for Howe’s system, and while the Reds want £50m from his sale, a deal is likely to be agreed upon for a little less than that figure.

“Newcastle United are looking at Harvey Elliott”, Bailey told the Geordie Boot Boys.

“He ticks an awful lot of boxes for Newcastle. He can play wide right or as a number 10. He has had a fantastic Under-21 Euros.

“Money-wise, Liverpool are looking for £50million. They probably won’t get that, but it is going to be mid-40s, you would imagine.

“Good young player with a great CV. You could see how he would fit in at Newcastle United and be an Eddie Howe-type player.”

Will Liverpool sell Elliott to a potential Premier League rival?

Liverpool still rate Elliott, and his performance in the Under-21 European Championship was a testament to his talent and ability.

However, Arne Slot provided him with very few opportunities last season, and the attacking midfielder has indicated that he is open to leaving the club.

Brighton have their eyes on him, but Newcastle’s interest is more intriguing as the Magpies want to emerge as title contenders in the next few years.

Howe’s side will hope to remain a top-four contender next season as well, and could very well be a challenger to Liverpool at the top of the table.

It is unclear whether the Reds would be open to selling a top young midfielder such as Elliott to a Newcastle side who could be a threat to Liverpool in the coming years.
