Liverpool will be without a couple of players in the next few weeks, as they ponder what to do in the January transfer window.
Arne Slot is yet to make any concrete statement so far on the club’s activity in the market. Liverpool have only made one permanent first team signing since the Dutchman took charge last summer. However, Slot has done a magnificent job considering what he has at his disposal.
The Reds boss has been able to bring the best out of a few players that the fans expected to be sold after last season. Ryan Gravenberch in particular, has shown his quality under Arne Slot and is one of the best midfielders in England this season.

The same cannot be said for others in the squad. Darwin Nunez has failed to convince Arne Slot that he is the striker for this Liverpool team. The Reds’ boss has chosen to play Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota in the central role in attack this season. With Nunez’s form and Jota’s recent injury, there have been calls from fans to bring in another attacker this month.
Ben Doak was sent out on loan this season, and is having a fantastic campaign in the Championship. It was suggested that the youngster be brought back into the first team, with him having a clause in his loan deal. It has now been confirmed that Doak will not be returning to Anfield this month.
Middlesbrough boss Michael Carrick confirmed the news after Doak scored against West Brom on Tuesday night:
“The deadline has passed for Ben,” the former United midfielder explained. “I said all along I was calm. Obviously we’re really happy he’s here, but genuinely, it hasn’t been a big thing for us.
“He showed again tonight how dangerous he is and then scored a terrific goal. It’s something he can do a little bit more, come inside onto his left foot, because it’s something he’s good at as well. I’m delighted with it.
“He’s got that weapon and unique threat. The way he plays the game, everyone has their own strengths, but the way Ben plays the game, he’s always in the game and always a threat. We’re obviously happy he’ll be staying here. He’s a big role and he’ll continue to do that for the time that he’s here.”
Arne Slot will have to manage with Federico Chiesa and Darwin Nunez as attacking options off the bench from now till the end of the season.
