Liverpool to get £30M discount on defender who leads Europe in dribbles

Liverpool have lined up huge targets ahead of this summer.

The reds are planning to make significant changes to the squad in the coming months. Liverpool decided against splashing the cash in January, they only allowed players to leave. Jayden Danns and Stefan Bajcetic were among eight players that left Anfield last month.

Since Arne Slot arrived in the summer, the club have made one permanent addition to the first team. Federico Chiesa joined the reds from Juventus. Despite a lack of quality depth options, Liverpool have done well for themselves this season. Slot has managed to bring the best out of some players with his new system. Ryan Gravenberch has shone in the more possession-based style of play.

This weekend’s events showed how much the reds needed squad depth. Liverpool fell to Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup. The Championship side were near the bottom of the league before Sunday’s game. A penalty from Ryan Hardie early in the second half was enough for a 1-0 victory. Arne Slot was disappointed in the performance of his players. Liverpool now have three competitions available to win. The Premier League, Champions League and League Cup are still in sight.

Liverpool have shifted their focus to the summer window. The club has seen that they need to make some major renovations to maintain the success under Arne Slot. The reds are also preparing for a future without Virgil Van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah.

According to Fichajes, Marc Guehi has been identified as a transfer target for Liverpool. The defender has been the subject of interest of top English clubs since last year. Newcastle had a £60million bid rejected in the summer, and in January, Spurs also had a £70million bid shut down. The report claims that Crystal Palace are willing to lower their asking price to £40million. Guehi is in the last year of his contract and has all the leverage needed to leave.

Reds need to act fast for Guehi

£40million is a very affordable fee for Liverpool. The reds could need a replacement for Van Dijk when he decides to leave Anfield. Guehi ticks a lot of boxes; young, athletic and good on the ball. Guehi ranks fourth in successful take-on percentage (83.3%) in Europe’s top 5 leagues according to FBref.

The former Chelsea star has carved a reputation for himself in the Premier League. Marc Guehi could be the ideal replacement for Virgil Van Dijk.
