Liverpool title hero stunned by dramatic contract twist

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has been clear about not wanting to sell his best players despite the club being well on their way to spending big this summer. The Reds have now made a major decision on the topic of a new deal for a top player, which has stunned the star in question.

The Reds have already signed Jeremie Frimpong as Trent Alexander-Arnold’s replacement and are set to spend a club-record fee for Florian Wirtz’s signature from Bayer Leverkusen.

Liverpool have already sold Caoimhin Kelleher to Brentford for an initial fee of £13.5m, and are looking to shift more players out in the coming weeks, including the potential sale of a star who is an Arne Slot favourite

However, Liverpool have also made a major decision on the question of a new contract for a top performer, which has left his camp stunned this summer.

The Reds make a major new contract decision for a star man

Luis Diaz’s future at Liverpool is under scrutiny due to interest from Saudi Pro League clubs and Barcelona in the ongoing transfer window.

Barcelona indeed approached Liverpool on Wednesday to discuss a deal, but were clearly told that the Reds are in no mood to sell the winger this summer.

Arne Slot sees him as a key part of his plans for the 2025/26 season, which led to a belief that they will soon sort out a new contract with the Colombian.

However, according to The Athletic, Liverpool are prepared to let him leave on a free transfer in 2027 if needed, and a new contract might not materialise.

The Reds want to get the best out of the 28-year-old winger and are not worried if the winger doesn’t sign a new deal to replace his current one, which expires in 2027.
