Liverpool STUN European giants with dramatic decision on club hero

Liverpool will need player sales to balance their books if they want to spend big in the ongoing transfer window, and several are expected to leave. However, the Reds have provided a fitting reply to a top European club eyeing one of their title heroes.

Their pursuit of Florian Wirtz and the little time they wasted in snapping up Jeremie Frimpong this summer is a sign of their ambition in the ongoing transfer window.

However, sporting director Richard Hughes is also under pressure to sell players, and several fringe stars are expected to be moved on in the coming weeks.

But Arne Slot is also clear about not wanting to lose some of his best players, and a top European club are now aware of what Liverpool feel about selling one of their star men.

The Reds knock-back approach for a star man

Barcelona have been public about their interest in Luis Diaz, with sporting director Deco namechecking him a couple of weeks back.

He has also been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, but Barcelona have shown the strongest interest and the player is also believed to be keen to join them.

However, according to The Athletic, Liverpool have rejected an approach from Barcelona for the 28-year-old Colombian winger this summer.

It has been claimed that Deco contacted Liverpool on Wednesday to discuss the possibility of taking Diaz to the Nou Camp in the ongoing transfer window.

However, Liverpool made it clear that they have no appetite to sell a player who is seen as a key part of Arne Slot’s plans for the 2025/26 season.

Liverpool want to offer the winger a new contract to reward his performances and have no plans to let him go this summer.
