Liverpool had another tough encounter against Paris Saint-Germain this week.
After a hard fought away win last week, the reds brought a 1-0 advantage back to Anfield. Liverpool were dominated for most of the proceedings in the first leg, but hanged on long enough to win the match. Harvey Elliot came off the bench to give the reds a shock win. After the game, PSG boss Luis Enrique insisted his side should have won the game.
The second leg was even more difficult for the reds. PSG came to Anfield and started quickly off the blocks, pinning the Premier League side back for most of the first half. The French side took a shock lead through Ousmane Dembele in the 12 minute. Both sides were evenly matched for the rest of the game which went into extra time.
Paris Saint-Germain won the penalty shoot out after heroics from Gigi Donnarumma.

Liverpool suffer huge blow

Before Tuesday night, the reds had hope of winning the treble. Liverpool have a 15-point lead in the Premier League with less than 10 games to go. Arne Slot will have his first opportunity to win a trophy when his side face Newcastle in the League Cup final this weekend. The result of the Paris Saint-Germain tie was unexpected, but what happened in the game was heavy blow for the reds.
Trent Alexander-Arnold challenged for the ball near the sidelines, and twisted his ankle near the technical area. He came back on the pitch for treatment, but Liverpool decided to sub him off. It took extensive treatment for the defender on the pitch before the decision was made to take him off. Trent looked in a lot of pain going down the tunnel, but he walked on his feet which is a bright sign for the reds.
Ibrahima Konate also went off during added time, he called for a substitution and just went straight to the dugout. It is not known what kind of injury it was. But most reports suspect it might have been a cramp, and Liverpool did not want to risk him.
As it stands, both Trent and Konate might be doubtful to make the League Cup final this weekend.
Reds are in trouble
It looks like the workload over the past month is taking a toll on the players. Liverpool have done well to keep the players fit all season. But recent knocks to the likes of Conor Bradley and Cody Gakpo has shown that the team lacks depth. Hopefully the reds can address these issues in the upcoming transfer window.
