Liverpool start personal talks with highly rated German star

Liverpool were able to keep their key players at the club in January.

Many offers came in last month for their best players, but the reds held firm. It has now been reported that Liverpool are focusing on this summer to make any significant changes to the team.

The reds rejected offers for Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez during the window. Liverpool were determined to keep the core of the squad together as Arne Slot competes for trophies.

Liverpool beat Spurs in the second leg of the League Cup semi-final on Thursday night. The reds overturned a 1-0 deficit in the first leg by winning 4-0 in the next leg at Anfield.

The dream of winning the quadruple could become a reality this season.

Liverpool fans would hope lifting trophies at the end of the season could convince their players to stay. Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil Van Dijk are yet to sign new deals and could leave on free transfers in the summer. Salah and Van Dijk have hinted they could stay if their terms are met. Trent is almost set to join Real Madrid in La Liga. However, the club have launched a last attempt at convincing the 26-year old.

The reds are already planning major transfers this summer. Liverpool have factored in the possible departures of Trent, Salah and Van Dijk in these plans. Arne Slot even admitted to this during the week:

“Of course, we have some contractual situations that you don’t probably don’t know about,”

“But Trent, Mo, and Virgil haven’t extended yet. So we are aware of the fact that we have to be sharp and ready for things that can happen.”

One player Liverpool are looking at is Joshua Kimmich. Caught Offside reports that the reds contacted the German last month to figure out a deal. The 29-year old is set to leave Bayern this summer as his contract expires. Liverpool could also take advantage of the market to sign him to a pre-contract.

Angelo Stiller and Frenkie de Jong are also on Liverpool’s radar as they target reinforcements in midfield.

Joshua Kimmich is a great option

Looking at the current market, not many great midfielders will be available in the summer. Signing Joshua Kimmich on a free transfer is a very viable option for the Reds. He has experience, quality, and versatility that would be useful with the possible exit of Trent Alexander-Arnold.
