Liverpool had an unlikely hero in Paris on Wednesday night.
The reds had their first leg of their Champions League knockout game against Paris Saint-Germain. Both teams came into the game in incredible form. PSG had a 22-game unbeaten run and were on a 10-game winning streak. Luis Enrique’s side had scored 21 goals in their last four games. Liverpool were coming into the game off big wins against Manchester City and Newcastle in the Premier League.
Arne Slot’s work in this first season in charge has been nothing short of amazing. He has turned the team around, and made some players better. Liverpool are in contention for the treble and could win their first trophy of the season in the League Cup final next weekend.

Liverpool star unhappy with current role

The reds started Wednesday night’s game poorly as they were camped in their half for most of their first 45 minutes. PSG had an early goal ruled out for offside. Liverpool also survived a controversial incident as VAR failed to give a penalty after Ibrahima Konate shoved Bradley Barcola. After the game, Konate claimed that it would have been a ”soft” penalty to give.
Liverpool won 1-0 late in the game, courtesy of a Harvey Elliot goal. The midfielder came on for Mohamed Salah in the 86th minute and was involved in the game-winning goal just moments later.
According to Football Insider, Harvey Elliot could push to leave Liverpool this summer. This information comes from transfer expert Mick Brown, who suggested that the midfielder is unhappy with his role at the club:
“Liverpool now have to decide that, given his return to fitness, is he going to be a regular in their team? Does he get into their midfield ahead of the likes of Szoboszlai and Mac Allister?
“I think they like him as a squad player, who can come in and do a job, and they have high hopes for his development and future at the club. But from his point of view, I’m told he’s not happy just playing a bit-part role.”
“In that case, he might be looking for a move away where he can play regular football. He’s good enough to play in the starting XI for a lot of clubs.”
Reds have a big decision to make
Harvey Elliot has only made four starts this season. The midfielder has also featured in just 18 games during this campaign. With his contract expiring in less than two seasons, Liverpool have a big decision to make. If the reds do decide to sell, they need to do it this summer, when Elliot’s value is at its highest.
