The contract sagas at Anfield are set to hit a stumbling block as Liverpool are braced for a departure.
Since the start of the season, the contract issues at the club have dominated the news. Despite the team being at the top of the Premier League and Champions League group stage, with Arne Slot as one of the best teams in Europe, the saga continues.
Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil Van Dijk are out of contract this summer, and Liverpool has yet to confirm new deals. The situation has been the top priority of the reds since last summer, with the club even prioritizing these renewals over transfer deals.
Quiz: Can you name these 10 former Premier League players?
Deal for Liverpool star is almost complete

The trio of first team stars are yet to state their intentions for the rest of the season. But it has been quite obvious that Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk would prefer to remain at Anfield, while Trent Alexander-Arnold is already on his way out of the door. Former Reds star Emile Heskey even hinted that Salah and Van Dijk are very close to signing new deals.
There have been some offers from the Saudi Pro League for Mohamed Salah, but the Egyptian international is determined to finish this season. Paris Saint-Germain have made a deal for Salah a priority this summer according to reports.
Trent Alexander-Arnold has been in contact with Real Madrid for a while, but can only legally open contract negotiations this month according to FIFA rules. Sacha Tavolieri reported that Trent is in talks with the Spanish giants and has already made his demands known. The defender wants around €400,000 a week and a huge signing bonus to join Madrid in the summer.
Relevo journalist Jorge Picon, has recently revealed that a deal between both parties is “98 per cent” complete. Trent is almost certain to join Real Madrid in the coming months.
Reds need to focus on Salah and Van Dijk
Now that Trent is almost certain to leave, the club would be better off focusing their resources on keeping Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk. Losing three key players in one window would be a huge blow to the teams. The trio have been pivotal in the reds’ campaign this season, and could be the key to them lifting trophies come this summer. Replacing them would be even much more difficult looking at the transfer market.
