Liverpool could be set to lose one key first team star before the January transfer window ends.
The club have made it quite public that they will not be bringing any new faces this month. The Reds only made one permanent first team signing during the summer when Arne Slot took over. Despite this, the Dutch coach has exceeded all expectations as he has the reds top of the Premier League and Champions League group phase.
Liverpool are still resolving the futures of Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold. That seems to be the priority for the club from now till the summer. Future transfer decisions will be taken with the club’s wage bill in mind; last season, the wage bill increased from £373million in 2022-23 to £387million last season.

Saudi clubs line up Liverpool star for deadline day move
Earlier this month, Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez was linked with a move away from the club. The Uruguayan started the season as the backup striker as Diogo Jota was Arne Slot’s preferred choice up front. Nunez was out of favour the past few weeks and was linked with a move to Saudi Arabia.
According to reports, the striker received £560,000 per week deal from Al Hilal but Liverpool rejected a £70million offer. The Reds turned down the deal because they felt it would be almost impossible to sign a replacement this month. Liverpool also felt they would have to pay an inflated fee even if they found the ideal replacement.
Now, Al Nassr have shortlisted Darwin Nunez as they seek to boost their attack. The Saudi Pro League side sold Anderson Talisca and are now looking for a top quality replacement. Al Nassr have targeted Nunez alongside Aston Villa star Jhon Duran, and Bayer Leverkusen’s Victor Boniface.
The Athletic report that Liverpool will maintain their stance that Nunez is not for sale, despite the Saudi club willing to spend around £80million.
Darwin Nunez will be key to end of season run
The Uruguayan showed that he is willing to fight for his place in the team as he came on and scored a brace in the 2-0 win over Brentford in the past few weeks. With the reds fighting on all fronts, Nunez will be key, especially with the recent injury to Diogo Jota. Having no recognized striker in the team at this point of the season would be a terrible squad planning decision.
