Club bids for Liverpool target after Anfield visit

Liverpool might have another transfer target snapped up in the coming days.

The Reds ended their Champions League group phase with a 3-2 loss away to PSV in Holland. Arne Slot decided to use the last game of the group phase as an opportunity to rest players. Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah, Alisson, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ibrahima Konate, Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Luis Diaz all missed the game on Wednesday night.

Liverpool are through to the knockout phase of the Champions League after their win. The team is now on course to challenge for the quadruple this season. Before the summer, no one would have tipped the Reds to be this good, but Arne Slot has proven the doubters wrong.

This season, Arne Slot has showed he is not that big of a fan of Darwin Nunez as the team’s striker. Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz have been used in the central role in attack so far, with Nunez often coming off the bench. This has prompted rumours that the club would move on from Nunez in the summer.

The Reds have already rejected a bid from the Saudi Pro League this month. Liverpool feel losing the Uruguayan in January would not leave a lot of time to sort out a replacement. Nunez’s brace against Brentford in the Premier League showed that the player is ready to fight for his place in the team.

Liverpool have been linked with Lille striker Jonathan David. The Canadian international played and scored on his visit to Anfield in the Champions League last week. The Mirror reports that Lille have rejected a £10million bid for David, who is out of contract in the summer. The French club feel they are in a financially secure position to keep the player.

Arsenal, Liverpool and Newcastle are reportedly interested on signing him on a free transfer this summer.

Should the Reds move for Jonathan David this summer?

The striker ticks all the boxes for Liverpool; he is still young, will come on a free transfer and has shown his ability to score at a high level. With the Reds braced to lose either one of Trent Alexander-Arnold or Mohamed Salah, recruiting an attacker who can create and score would be a high priority. Liverpool should explore the possibility.
