Liverpool star makes shock move, signs new deal on deadline day

With the transfer window ending on Monday night, Liverpool could be in for shock surprises.

Arne Slot made a bold move last week in the Champions League. The Liverpool boss made nine changes to the squad preferring to rest his players for a difficult upcoming period. The reds lost 3-2 to PSV, but the game played a vital role in the club’s transfer plans.

Slot said the game was the perfect opportunity to assess the fringe players at the club:

“At the moment we have most of our players fit, so we will have this discussion tomorrow, me and Richard [Hughes], about these players,”

Arne Slot ruled out any potential moves for youngster James McConnell after seeing how well the midfielder played last week. The 20-year old made an impression, and changed the clubs transfer plans in the process:

“But there’s definitely one of them that will not go on loan, and I think you know which one I mean… James McConnell.”

“I wouldn’t say definitely but I liked him a lot today, so maybe the end result would be good to go somewhere and play but he’s also a player that hasn’t played much 90 minutes in the last six or seven months because he was injured for a while. He impressed me a lot today.”

Jayden Danns also featured in the game against PSV. The young striker is now set to join Sunderland in a loan deal before deadline day. That is not the only news, as The Athletic confirmed that the 19-year old has penned a long-term contract ahead of the transfer.

Liverpool reportedly see Danns as a future first team star, and have tied him down for the near future. The striker has scored three goals in nine senior appearances for the club, who believe he is a key player for the future.

Brilliant move for Danns

Reports around Anfield have suggested that Darwin Nunez could be on his way out of the club in the summer. The big money signing has failed to live up to his price tag so far. Liverpool are set to do huge business in the coming months, and a deal for Nunez could be sanctioned. This would make a first team pathway for Jayden Danns, depending on how the loan deal works.
