Liverpool star has ‘no idea at the moment’ about the direction of the contract talks

A 2-1 win over Chelsea on Sunday kept Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table but the club are still having to battle rumours over the future of several stars at the club.

Arne Slot has continued to impress since taking charge of the first-team from Jurgen Klopp at the end of last season and Sunday’s win was further evidence of his good work.

Liverpool fans would love to talk about the kind of football their team have been playing since the start of the season but the discussions around the future of several stars continue to darken the supporters’ mood.

There have been mixed signals coming out of Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Anold’s camp but Liverpool remain confident of tying them down to new deals.

However, there has been very little news about the future of Virgil van Dijk who is also out of contract at the end of the season.

The Liverpool captain has come out in the open to talk about his future and whether he will be at Anfield next season.

I don’t know what the future holds for me at Liverpool – Virgil van Dijk

The Dutchman has been imperious this season and Liverpool’s defensive record is largely down to him finding his best form under Slot.

However, as things stand, he will be free to discuss a pre-contract with a club outside England from January onwards.

Van Dijk admitted that talks are ongoing between his representatives and the club over a new deal but indicated that no agreement is still in sight.

He conceded that at the moment he has no idea what the future holds and whether he will be staying at Anfield beyond the end of his current contract.

“I can say obviously discussions are ongoing, but I don’t know, we will see what happens in the future”, Van Dijk was quoted as saying by the Independent.

“My very full focus is on Liverpool, wanting to win games that are ahead of me and nothing else.

“What the future will bring I have no idea at the moment. I can only tell you that discussions have been started up and we will see.”
