Can’t let Arsenal do what Chelsea did, Arne Slot must thank his lucky stars – An unimpressed Liverpool legend

Arne Slot might have to do without striker Diogo Jota in Arsenal vs Liverpool

Liverpool are flying high after a 2-1 win over Chelsea at Anfield and are continuing to sit at the summit of the Premier League table.

The Reds fans would feel the win over Chelsea furthered Liverpool’s credentials as genuine contenders to win the Premier League this season.

The Merseyside giants have won seven of their opening eight league games and have the best defensive record in the league at this stage of the season.

Liverpool will now approach the game against Arsenal at the Emirates on Sunday with more confidence but Steve Nicol was not hugely impressed with what he saw of his former side at Anfield over the weekend.

Don’t tell me Liverpool can play like that against Arsenal – Former Red

Chelsea dominated the ball with 58 percent possession and had more attempts but Liverpool were more clinical and scored the two goals needed to win the game.

Liverpool, often, sat back and soaked up the pressure at Anfield on Sunday but Nicol insisted that they can’t afford to employ those tactics at the Emirates.

He stressed that Slot’s team were lucky to get all three points and it was largely built on the back four playing well and protecting the goalkeeper.

However, the former Red stressed that Liverpool will need to be more proactive and confront Arsenal if they are to get a positive result in north London next weekend.

“You’re not telling me they’re going to go away from home in an even bigger game and decide to get after and close the ball down early”, the Liverpool legend said on ESPN FC.

“That’s not happening. He [Slot] has to thank his lucky stars that they won this game but he has to look at it and figure out if you’re going to go to Arsenal and sit, there has to be a confrontation with the man on the ball at a certain point.

“You can’t just stand back and let Arsenal do what Chelsea did today because the back four was overworked, but it did its job and that’s why Kelleher didn’t have much to do.”

Arsenal will be licking their wounds following a 2-0 defeat at Bournemouth and will be keen to bounce back at home when they host Liverpool on Sunday.
