Liverpool show ‘strong interest’ in 24-year-old striker with expiring contract

While the January transfer window is just months away, Liverpool are already plotting moves for next summer when the club are expected to push to bring in several reinforcements for different areas of their squad.

The Merseyside giants were less than great last summer in the window but the club are keen to make sure that they are more aggressive in the upcoming windows.

Liverpool have plans in place to sign a midfielder in the January window but the club are looking at strengthening different areas of their squad at the end of the season.

With Darwin Nunez continuing to struggle to become a regular source of goals, Liverpool are likely to bring in a striker next summer as part of their transfer plans.

Liverpool are keeping tabs on several players who could cost big money given how premium strikers have become but the club are also open to picking up free transfers as a market opportunity.

Lille striker Jonathan David is one of the strikers the club are keeping tabs on and his contract situation makes him an attractive proposition.

Liverpool are hovering around the potential free transfer

David is in the final year of his contract and several clubs are keeping a close eye on the player, including a few teams in Italy.

Inter Milan and Juventus are amongst the clubs eyeing him and according to InterLive, Liverpool are showing a strong interest in the striker as well.

The Canadian is not expected to sign a new contract and will consider offers on his table in the coming months.

Liverpool are aware of the contract situation and is interested in snapping up a player of his quality on a free transfer.

David is free to discuss a pre-contract with clubs outside France from January onwards and Liverpool are running out of time to make a decision on whether to try and sign him.

The Reds need a striker next summer

Nunez is increasingly struggling to justify the money Liverpool paid for him in 2022 and has 34 goals in 104 appearances for the club.

He has scored just once in the Premier League this season and has made just one league start with Arne Slot preferring Diogo Jota in the number 9 role.

With the Uruguayan yet to convince despite being in his third season at Liverpool, the club are almost certain to invest in a striker next summer.

Any big move for another striker would have to involve Nunez leaving but the Reds are likely to demand big money if they are to sell him and register a profit.

David’s contract situation makes him attractive to the Reds who could have to find creative financial ways to strengthen their squad.
