Arne Slot took up the unenviable task of being the follow-up act to Jurgen Klopp who left Liverpool at the end of last season as a cult hero and one of the greatest managers in the club’s long and illustrious history.
The Dutchman won the league at Feyenoord previously but the Rotterdam outfit are not even the biggest club in the Netherlands and many felt that the Liverpool job was too big for him.
Slot has gone a long way into proving his detractors wrong by making a flying start to the season, winning seven of the opening eight league games of the campaign.
His team are at the top of the Premier League table despite doubts about the club’s ability to sustain a title charge and they have made a solid start to their Champions League campaign as well, beating both AC Milan and Bologna.
At the start of the process of identifying Klopp’s successor, Slot was not Liverpool’s top choice but the club’s decision-makers ultimately trusted their analysts and must feel content at making the right choice.
Liverpool players must be happy to hear a new voice after Klopp – Slot
The new Liverpool boss is never short of confidence and admitted that he never felt overwhelmed when he took up the job as he did prove himself in the Netherlands.
He admitted that it was easier for him to take the Liverpool job as the squad more or less played his style of football under Klopp as well.
The Dutchman insisted that the most important bit was to bring his own personality to the job and is hopeful that he will be able to leave a mark in the next few years.
Slot also feels that the players were also ready to hear a new voice after spending so many years under Klopp.
“The good thing for me is that I had some good seasons before I started over here”, Slot told TNT Sports.
