Liverpool lead the Premier League table after eight games and have emerged as a genuine contender for the title but the speculation of the club being in the market for elite players continue to do the rounds.
The Reds have a few specific plans for the January transfer window but those are largely centred around signing a defensive midfielder, which they failed to do in the summer.
Liverpool are also plotting to sell Wataru Endo and are likely to be open to loan offers for Tyler Morton who has been linked with a move to Leeds United ahead of the winter window.
There are question marks over the future of Mohamed Salah and the Reds are aware that they could need to sign a proven talent if the Egyptian leaves on a free transfer next summer.
Liverpool have been keeping tabs on several young talents who could replace Salah but their admiration for Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has always been known.
The Merseyside giants could have an opening to snare him away from the Serie A outfit next summer.
The Liverpool target is involved in a contract stand-off with Napoli
The 23-year-old winger has been one of the best players in Serie A over the last couple of seasons but his wages are nowhere close to what the stars in Italy earn.
He is currently on a contract worth €1.5m per season and according to Calciomercato.com, he is demanding a new deal worth €8m but for the moment, Napoli are only prepared to offer him €5m per year.
A new meeting has been scheduled between Napoli and his representatives to unlock the negotiations but there is still some distance between the two camps.
Paris Saint-Germain offered him a deal worth €11m per year last summer but they couldn’t agree a fee with Napoli.
He has close to three years left on his current contract but Napoli no longer consider him unsellable, especially if he doesn’t sign a new contract.
Liverpool have been long-term admirers of the player and are keeping a close eye on the situation.
Will he move in the summer?
If the current contract stand-off persists, there is a real possibility of the player leaving Napoli in the summer.
Liverpool will keep their eyes peeled on the situation but a transfer is not going to be straightforward as Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis is known as a notoriously tough negotiator.
Several clubs over the years have found one thing about him – the Italian only does business on his terms.
Napoli are likely to demand more than €100m if they are to sell Kvaratskhelia at the end of the season.
