Liverpool star facing the risk of ‘regression’, needs to provide answers on the pitch

Liverpool signed Federico Chiesa from Serie A giants Juventus towards the end of the summer transfer window as a market opportunity to bring in a quality player at a low price.

Chiesa had a difficult last season at Juventus and was not great in the European Championship but the winger is still rated highly in his homeland.

With his contract entering its final year last summer, Juventus agreed to cash in and move him on and Liverpool were happy to get their hands on him towards the end of the window.

The Merseyside giants believed they signed a quality player who could add something different to his squad despite his recent underwhelming form and injury issues.

However, Chiesa has so far underwhelmed in a Liverpool shirt and has managed just 78 minutes of football across three appearances in the Premier League, the Champions League and the FA Cup.

The winger has been on the sideline with an injury over the last few weeks and is still not fit enough to get back into the squad.

His struggles have led to raised eyebrows in Italy who were genuinely keen to see him do well at Liverpool.

Chiesa could regress at Liverpool

Chiesa has yet to prove himself on Merseyside and his injuries have further hurt him in his attempts to adapt to a new club and country.

The winger was not called up to the Italy squad in the recent international break and a report in Tutto Mercato has raised fears for his career in England.

Italian journalist Andrea Losapio is genuinely worried about Chiesa’s career going nowhere at Liverpool in the coming months and years.

With the winger still struggling for fitness, Losapio raised the fear of his career regressing given he has not got on the pitch much since joining the Reds.

He insisted that the only way the player can answer back his critics is by getting fit and playing more football on the pitch going forward.

Arne Slot recently indicated that the winger is struggling to match the intensity and fitness levels of his Liverpool teammates and will need more time to adapt to playing in England.

However, Italian observers are worried that he could be left behind given the cutthroat competition in the Liverpool squad.
