Manchester United want Frenkie de Jong and after beating them to Darwin, Liverpool should and could beat them to the Dutchman.
It’s widely reported that Erik ten Hag wants to bring de Jong to the Premier League as he looks to take Manchester United back to the top.
A bit like how Jurgen Klopp has elevated Liverpool back to the most successful side in English football history.
Since taking the Liverpool job in 2015, he has won the following:
- Premier League
- Champions League
- FA Cup
- Carabao Cup
- FIFA Club World Cup
- UEFA Super Cup
He very nearly won the Premier League for a second time this season but Manchester City beat Liverpool to the title by a single point while Real Madrid beat them in the Champions League final.
I’m sure United fans enjoyed watching the Reds slump to two major disappointments within a week.
FSG has helped fans get over it, however, by beating Manchester United to Darwin Nunez, sealing a €100million deal.
The forward will be paid €8million per season for six years.
Liverpool could and should poach Frenkie de Jong from Man Utd
The Dutchman is a priority target for United, who are in dire need of midfield reinforcements after a season which saw their engine room routinely bypassed.
De Jong could be the answer to their prayers but I believe that Liverpool should and could poach a move to sign him although his wage demands are preposterous.
Apparently, he wants €19million (£16m) per season to stay at Camp Nou.

While Liverpool will never pay wages like that for a player that really struggled for consistency last season, De Jong is a special player that would flourish under Jurgen Klopp.
The German would have absolutely no problem convincing him that moving to Liverpool is better for his career than moving to Old Trafford.
Not only can Liverpool offer more silverware but they can also offer the chance to join a squad filled with world-class stars that could help him improve and take his game to the next level.
Playing alongside Thiago Alcantara would be especially beneficial for De Jong as the Spaniard is one of the best midfielders of his generation.
As we’ve already seen with Nunez picking Liverpool over United, it’s no longer much of a competition between the two clubs as the Reds are comfortably the better option.
Ten Hag, in my opinion, will do very well at United but it’s too early for Man Utd to be considered a better destination for players on the move.
Liverpool have proven to be one of the very best sides in Europe over the last four years and despite Sadio Mane wanting to leave the club, there’s no evidence to suggest the Merseysiders will drop off any time soon.
